How to Find Your Undertone for Nail Colors
Undertone describes the subtle cast beneath your surface skin tone. For nail color, it is best treated as a helpful styling clue rather than a hard rule.
Cool undertone
Cool undertones often appear pinker, rosy or slightly bluish. Berry, blue, purple and blue-red shades may create crisp contrast.
Warm undertone
Warm undertones often read as golden, peach or yellow. Caramel, amber, warm brown, coral and golden shades can feel especially harmonious.
Neutral undertone
Neutral undertones sit between warm and cool. Neutral-friendly shades include rose nudes, burgundy, balanced reds, taupes and many jewel tones.
When you are unsure
Look at your skin in natural daylight and compare warm and cool color families side by side. If both look good, choose neutral in the finder and let your finish and occasion preferences do more of the work.
